The NFL trade machine keeps rolling along, moving to the wide receiver market to address the ongoing rumors surrounding Odell Beckham Jr.

It’s been reported more than once including by respected insider Jay Glazer that the New York Giants may seriously consider dealing their superstar wide receiver. Despite getting his money last year, there was no letup in his antics that bring unwanted attention to the team. GM Dave Gettleman is known for having a low tolerance for skill position players getting so much money. It is possible he might be able to sell ownership on moving on after his strong 2018 draft.

There’s no question Beckham would command a hefty package in return. He’s in the prime of his career and unquestionably one of the best receivers in football. The big obstacle is his contract. Taking in $18 million per year is a lot for any franchise. New York would have to find one that’s in a good position to absorb such a hit. There are plenty of teams with cap space, but many of them are entering rebuilding phases. Trading for Beckham would likely hurt more than help.

One team that might make a ton of sense though is the Houston Texans. An idea that the rest of the AFC absolutely does not want to hear.

Odell Beckham and DeAndre Hopkins would be unfair

The Texans are in the middle of a salary cap bubble. They have over $77 million in spending money this offseason without a ton of priority free agents to take care of save for star pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney. They’re also capable of creating an extra $9 million in space by cutting former 1st round pick Kevin Johnson who has been a major disappointment at cornerback. So even if they extend Clowney to a maximum deal, they’ll have plenty left to get Beckham.

Now try to imagine that. Deshaun Watson, a Pro Bowl quarterback, throwing to a superstar wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins who has another superstar wide receiver in Beckham on the other side. Not to mention the dangerously speedy Will Fuller and Keke Coutee being present on the field as well. Such a wealth of weaponry in one huddle hasn’t been seen in a long time.

Remember the Texans are working off their humiliating defeat at the hands of Indianapolis back in January. Scoring seven points in four quarters in your own building? That is hard to accept and a big reason it happened was Watson’s inability to find a rhythm in the passing game. Having Beckham in the lineup would be a game-changer.
