The Seattle Seahawks knew they had to look to the future when they decided to move on from several of their longtime veterans including Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett. One of the reasons they felt so comfortable doing so was the ascendence of young defensive end Frank Clark whom they believed was ready to take over as one of their defensive stalwarts.

He certainly didn’t disappoint. In his first year as “the guy” up front, he delivered 13 sacks and helped a young defense overachieve. Their efforts led to an unexpected playoff run. Clark now has 32 sacks in the past three seasons. He’s got a payday coming to him, but the Seahawks may not be ready to make him one of the highest-paid in the game. The franchise tag seems likelier.
