Washington Redskins Deliver Another Strong Draft
By Craig Stofko
ROUND FIVE: DELVON RANDALL, S, Temple
I am hopeful that Redskins fans see Ha Ha Clinton Dix lining up next to Montae Nicholson manning the safety spots for Washington this year. I like Ha Ha and I’m not giving up on Nicholson because of his boneheaded drunken altercation last year. I have told my kids many times: most mistakes are worth making as long as you learn from them.
I sincerely hope Nicholson learned a lesson. If so, he’s got a ton of talent. If he’s one of those guys that keeps making the same mistakes over and over again, (we call those guys idiots), that would be a shame. Either way, Randall brings size and speed to the secondary. At 6’1 215 pounds he looks to possess the football smarts a team needs in a safety.
And besides, the Redskins have to make amends for the Troy Apke pick. Time for an analogy: Those of us who golf all know guys who can hit the ball 300 yards but can’t putt to save their lives. Well, they’re not golfers, they’re just guys that can hit the ball a long way. Apke ran a 4.3 40 yard dash at the combine but he can’t tackle. Well, he’s not an NFL safety, he’s just fast. Delvon Randall would be a great pick in round 5. 55% of the simulations still had him sitting there.
