ROUND THREE (Pick 2): JACE STERNBERGER, TE, Texas A&M

This draft runs deep with talented tight ends. But, most of the simulations have the run on that position beginning in the third round. As we don’t have a fourth round pick it’s possible that by the time we pick again (in the fifth) all the elite talent has been spoken for. As previously mentioned, I don’t expect Jordan Reed to be back. So, we’re not looking for a developmental guy.

The Redskins need someone who can come in and immediately contribute. Jeremy Sprinkle will be the starter but Sternberger has all the tools to spell him and to line up with him when Gruden goes two ends. Sternberger actually has a lot of the same qualities as Sprinkle who I think is outstanding.

Both are big, strong, fast guys who know how to run good routes and catch the ball. Most importantly, they are both excellent blockers. The Redskins benefit from an extremely strong TE class by getting Sternberger at the end of the third round.
