Green Bay Packers mock draft: Best available approach
Second round, 44th overall: Nasir Adderley, S, Delaware
The Packers finally make a move to improve the defense. There were high expectations at the safety position entering the 2018 season. Fans were hoping that Ha Ha Clinton-Dix would turn around and play at the level of a first round pick. We know now that didn’t happen and he was traded to Washington.
Kentrell Brice and Josh Jones were two young guys with expectations as well, but Brice wasn’t effective on the back end and Jones still lacks processing speed.
The safety position is a huge weakness entering 2019, and the fix is here. While he may not have impressed a lot during Senior Bowl practices (he isn’t a true corner), Adderley would be a great fit in Green Bay. His best spot is playing deep in the free safety spot, where he can use his speed, range, and tracking ability to become a ballhawk on Green Bay’s defense.
Yes, Adderley isn’t the biggest safety, and I know Earl Thomas and Landon Collins are at the top of the free agency wish list, but it’s not guaranteed either will be Packers. Adderley has the attitude and potential to succeed early on just like last year’s first round pick, Jaire Alexander.
A secondary with Alexander, Adderley, Kevin King, and Josh Jackson is a great young core.
