2019 NFL Free Agency: Analyzing the top QB options available
Josh McCown, New York Jets
Age: 39
Josh McCown will likely very gladly take $10 million to be the New York Jets’ glorified quarterbacks coach and mentor role again in 2019 if it’s offered to him.
As shocking as that investment is for a backup quarterback, McCown has proven himself to be invaluable to the success of Sam Darnold and the Jets would probably love to have him back, even with a new coaching staff led by Adam Gase.
McCown has already played for eight different NFL teams and a ninth would be unprecedented.
A third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2002, McCown is highly respected as an essential player/coach but he may not quite have ‘it’ anymore when it comes to actually getting out on the field and getting the job done.
He threw one touchdown and four interception in four games this year for the Jets while mentoring Darnold along.
If this year was it for McCown, he would likely be highly sought after as a coach for teams.
