Dirk Koetter as Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator

When in doubt, go with what worked before right? Given the Atlanta Falcons credit. They didn’t try to get fancy after dismissing Steve Sarkissian as their offensive coordinator. They wanted somebody proven and who better to go with than the same guy who helped turn Matt Ryan into a star? Dirk Koetter may have been a failure as a head coach, but his time as a coordinator goes back many years and is littered with examples of success.

During his first stint in Atlanta from 2012 to 2014, they had a top 10 offense twice. Ryan cracked 30 touchdown passes for the first time under his direction. Koetter knows how to utilize offensive talent to maximum effect. If nothing else, he’ll bring a far more savvy disposition to play calling and situational management. Something that was constantly in question with Sarkissian. If the defense rebounds too, this team could get right back in the mix next season.
