Todd Bowles as Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator

Bruce Arians is known best for his understanding of offense and how to build around a quarterback. That’s been his thing for decades. Something he never gets enough credit for though is how good he is at identifying coaching talent on the defensive side. He was the one who gave Todd Bowles his big break back in 2013 and the young coach spent two years in Arizona crafting one of the best defenses in the league. Securing him in Tampa Bay was a huge coup.

The Buccaneers defense has been a constant issue for years and the primary reason they haven’t been able to make the playoffs. Bowles has his work cut out for him. Not only will the unit need a personnel overhaul but they’ll also be switching to a 3-4 alignment. It may take some time, but his track record speaks for itself. The guy will eventually find a way to make them a success. If Arians does his part, this team could be one to watch.
