The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a major crisis. They felt they’d be Super Bowl contenders in 2018 and instead seem back at the drawing board.

They still have a strong defense in place but their offense is an absolute mess. Not only is the Blake Bortles experiment finally over, but even what made them so good in 2017 came off the rails with running back Leonard Fournette dealing with injuries and crisis of motivation. It was painfully obvious this team needs some serious remodeling on that side of the ball, which is why offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett wasn’t retained.

Thus far they haven’t made any significant moves towards that end. They’ve been busy trying to figure things out regarding their personnel. First and foremost is an effort to get on the same page with their star running back. Until they’re able to find an actual quarterback who can help them, he’s going to be the focal point of their offense. So it might make sense to find a coordinator who might be able to accentuate that reality.

True to form, Tom Coughlin may already have a solution in mind.

Gary Kubiak would be perfect for what the Jaguars want to do

More from NFL Mocks

Though his time as a head coach is likely done for good, long-time NFL alum Gary Kubiak is interested in returning to the sidelines as an offensive coordinator. Most felt his obvious destination would end up being Denver where he has a long, fruitful relationship with the organization. However, that failed to materialize since VP John Elway wishes to run a more updated offense that has become popular around the league.

Kubiak may not be in that category anymore, but he’s proven plenty of times that his style of offense still has a place in the NFL. In 22 years of coaching as a coordinator and head coach, Kubiak’s offenses have finished in the top 10 in rushing 14 times. That level of consistency is not an accident. He has a keen understanding of how to conduct offensive line play and get the most out of his running backs to where it’s almost always effective.

It’s not an accident the man has won three Super Bowls. What he does works, even if it might not be fancy like some offenses today. Give him a talented front as Jacksonville has and a true bell cow like Fournette might as well be cheating. If he could turn Terrell Davis into a Hall of Famer and Arian Foster into an All-Pro, there’s no telling what he could do with a top 5 draft pick.
