The Chicago Bears may have to get a little more creative than they have in the past when it comes to their free agency plans for 2019.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It means they’re a good team now after going 12-4 and coming a missed field goal away from knocking off the defending champs. However, this only means they aren’t quite good enough yet to truly compete for a championship. There are certain positions that could do with an upgrade and free agency feels like their best chance to find them given how limited their draft stock is.

Here are five names that could be available this March. All of whom may end up being a big help to the Bears in their question to go further next season.

Stephen Gostkowski (K)

This should not be any sort of surprise. When a kicker costs you a playoff game, it’s likely he won’t remain on the roster for long. The Bears learned the hard way that it’s hard to overcome an erratic kicker in big games. Cody Parkey has cost them multiple victories in 2018. First came the overtime loss in Miami, which in hindsight would’ve landed them a first round bye. Then he clanks away their first postseason victory in eight years.

Stephen Gostkowski is anything but a stranger to a playoff atmosphere. All but one of the 13 seasons he’s played with the New England Patriots not involved in the postseason. He’s a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion. He knows how to handle pressure situations and remains a reliable leg even at 35-years old. He also understands how to kick in adverse weather conditions.
