3. Mitchell Trubisky – Chicago Bears

Mitch Trubisky is only in his second year in the NFL. His game against the Eagles this Wild Card weekend will be his first ever NFL playoff game. This situation sounds a bit like that of second year QB DeShaun Watson. So why does Trubisky have more to prove than Watson?

Trubisky has more to prove because of where he was taken in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Bears traded up one spot in that draft to select Trubisky second overall. To move up one spot, the Bears traded the number three overall pick, the 67th overall pick, the 111th overall pick and their third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

If the Bears would have stayed put at number three overall, they could have selected either Patrick Mahomes or DeShaun Watson and not have traded anything. That puts a lot of pressure on Trubisky to win. Trubisky needs to prove the Bears are more than just an elite defense.

If you look at Trubisky’s numbers from his rookie season to this season, he’s made great strides already. His passer rating went from 77.5 to 95.4.

Trubisky is on the right track to prove the Bears made the right decision, but he’s not quite there yet. A playoff win or two would only strengthen his case.
