Round 3 Pick 96

Joe Jackson – DE – Miami

The Jets take another shot at someone with a lot of upside in Joe Jackson with their second, third round pick.

At 6-5 and 258 pounds, Jackson uses his big body and high motor to get to the quarterback. During his time at Miami, he totaled 22.5 sacks in three seasons, as well 35.5 tackles for a loss.

Even as a freshman, Jackson made an immediate impact, finishing his freshman season with 7.5 sacks.

Like McGary, Jackson still has a lot of undeveloped potential. Jackson uses his intensity and size to rush the passer and get to the backfield, rather than using his hands or footwork. Jackson will need to be developed and learn to use his tools rather than his high motor.

If Jackson can develop, Jackson could have a very successful NFL career. However his current attack will likely not transition well to the NFL against professional offensive lineman.
