Round 3 Pick 68

Kaleb McGary – OL – Washington

The last thing Jets fans want to see is their franchise quarterback they spent years searching for get hurt because they cannot protect him. There is a chance they sign some linemen in free agency, but they will also be looking to build this line through the draft.

McGary is a nice pick in the third who could potentially see himself on the field as early as the 2019 season. McGary is a giant at 6-7 and 324 pounds who is an excellent athlete. As a lineman he is still very raw but certainly provides the upside of a top offensive lineman.

Strength is no issue for McGary. He is a good run blocker, as he is able to use his strength and size and push defenders back. While watching his film, you can find him pushing lineman back nearly 10 yards during runs.

Pass blocking is where McGary needs the most work. He cannot effectively move his body to keep pace with edge rushers. During the Auburn game, he got beat off the edge several times with speed. McGary needs to develop his footwork and hands during pass blocking in order to become a full time NFL starter.

McGary will be a project. He has all the physical traits to become an NFL starter but will need some work to develop the technical traits. In the third round, he offers a lot of upside.
