Round 1 Pick 3

A.J. Brown – WR – Ole Miss

I think the Jets trade down here, but for my mocks, I am assuming no trades.

If you have read any other mocks lately, you will likely see the Jets attacking either the offensive or defensive line, but as I mentioned before, the Jets have a lot of money to spend in free agency in those areas. There are very few wide receivers hitting the market this offseason, and the Jets need playmakers plain and simple.

A.J. Brown may come as a surprise to some, but Darnold desperately needs a WR1 that he can depend on. Brown would be a great fit on the Jets. He is big enough to line up outside but is also quick enough to line up in the slot to create mismatches. His versatility would help the Jets offense become a little more unpredictable and help Darnold get the ball to Brown.

Brown is 6-1 and 230 pounds and great after the catch. During his time at Ole Miss, he lined up a lot in the slot and was able to do his damage after the catch. However, Brown also has very strong hands and reaches out towards the ball instead of waiting for it to hit him in the chest. He is physical enough to go up one on one with defensive backs and make the tough catches.

Brown would be a reliable target for a young Darnold to grow with throughout his career.

At Ole Miss, Brown posted two 1,000 yard seasons, and caught 19 touchdowns over this three years against SEC defenses. Even after losing quarterback Shea Patterson, Brown continued to dominate defenses through the air.

The Jets are desperate for playmakers, and Brown is exactly what the Jets need.
