Patrick Mahomes or Drew Brees? Which QB would you choose to win the NFL MVP race this season? Hold on just a minute! What if I gave you a third candidate?

With a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night, the Los Angeles Chargers are now 11-3. That’s tied for the best record in the AFC. Who’s leading the charge for Los Angeles? Philip Rivers. By leading a comeback win over his AFC West division rivals, he has firmly inserted himself into the NFL MVP race.

I personally thought he was already in the NFL MVP race heading into last night’s game, but the Chargers’ win has seemed to open everyone’s eyes to just how good he’s been this season. Let’s take a look at his stats.

Stats: 69.4% completions for 3,951 yards, 31 TDs, eight INTs and a passer rating of 112.4

By simply looking at his stats this season, it’s clear Rivers is having a great year. However, we can’t know just how close he really is in the NFL MVP race until we see how those numbers stack up against the competition.
