Will the Bears defense be able to stop a high powered offense like the Saints without Bryce Callahan?

More from NFL Mocks

Let’s be real here. The Bears weren’t a great defense because of Callahan. He was a part of it, sure. Not the main part. The core of what makes them great is still intact with Mack, Hicks, Fuller and Jackson. There’s no question losing Callahan puts the nickel spot under stress but a mix of McManis and Kevin Toliver should be able to mask the weakness well enough. Beating the Saints will be about getting to Drew Brees, not covering his slot receiver.

I see Seattle used a lineman to catch a pass on MNF so, in your opinion, are these goal line/short yardage formations using O/D linemen a growing trend or just a fad? The athleticism of these bigger players is impressive.

Given how much success Nagy has had and how many headaches it creates for the defense trying to identify who the target might be? Yeah, I’d say there’s a strong chance other teams might start adopting some of what Nagy’s doing. Why not? It’s a copycat league. Teams are going to find what’s working and assimilate it into their own systems. The key though is not all of them can call plays and get players to execute as Nagy can.

With the new projection for the salary cap being released who will the #DaBears go after this off-season? Oline, playmakers or DBs?

The offensive line had its best game of the season against the Rams. Bobby Massie isn’t perfect but he’s improved a lot since last season. Aside from the uncertainty of that right guard spot, I’d actually say the offensive line is stable, though I would focus on finding more depth and competition. My focus would be on the edge rusher and cornerback positions. Aaron Lynch and Bryce Callahan will be free agents next year and I still think they can do better than Leonard Floyd as that #2 guy across from Mack.
