#7: Jamal Lewis vs. Cleveland Browns (2003)

One of those forgotten great running backs of yesteryear. Jamal Lewis was often overshadowed by his more glamorous defensive teammates like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Too many people forget the Baltimore Ravens would not have won that Super Bowl in 2000 without Lewis being able to generate any sort of offense amidst their woeful passing issues that year. Yet it wasn’t until 2003 that people truly saw how good the guy was.

He ran for a near-record 2,066 yards that season, the performance that brought it together was a sunny day in Cleveland. He’d been stymied the week before for just 30 yards in the opener, so Lewis came into this game with a killer instinct and the poor Browns were his punching bag. Keep in mind that team had gone to the playoffs the year before. So it wasn’t like they were a total pushover. Didn’t matter. Lewis set the then NFL record with 295 yards rushing, scoring two TDs.

It turns out that opening day clunker would be the only time that season where the Ravens had under 100 yards rushing.
