NFL Honors Predictions: Can anybody catch Aaron Donald?
By Erik Lambert
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Saquon Barkley (RB, New York Giants)
The Giants drafted Barkley #2 overall instead of a quarterback because they felt the Penn State standout had the qualities to be truly special in the NFL. So far that decision hasn’t steered them wrong. He’s been not just the best rookie running back in the league this year but is arguably the best in the NFL not named Gurley. He’s amassed 1,556 yards from scrimmage with 12 touchdowns in just 12 games.
Closest threat – Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns. His performances haven’t always been consistent, but there’s no doubt that Mayfield has offered plenty of glimpses as to why he was the #1 overall pick in the 2018 draft. His command of the huddle, confidence on the field, strong arm, and good accuracy are all apparent. He’s thrown for over 2,600 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has a chance to be the most prolific Browns rookie QB of all-time.
