NFL Honors Predictions: Can anybody catch Aaron Donald?
By Erik Lambert
Comeback Player of Year: Adrian Peterson (RB, Washington Redskins)
Everybody thought Peterson was done. It’s not hard to see why. He’d done nothing of consequence for years after leaving Minnesota, flaming out in New Orleans and Arizona. He came into this season with little preparation and was 33-years old, which is ancient for running backs. Turns out there was some juice left in that tank after all. “All Day” has 856 yards rushing with seven touchdowns in Washington, putting him on the cusp of his eighth-career season over 1,000.
Closest threat – Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts. Luck had not taken a snap in the NFL since 2016 coming into this offseason, having dealt with a troubling injury to his right shoulder. Some started to fear whether he might ever play again given some of the complications he suffered through. In the end he did return, and he’s been better than ever since doing so. Under the renewed direction of Frank Reich, Luck has thrown for 3,360 yards and 32 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions.
