Best 2019 NFL Draft prospect: WR Marquise Brown

2018 Stats: 75 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 TDs

Analysis: If QB Kyler Murray was planning on extending his football career, we’d probably be talking about him as the best 2019 NFL Draft prospect from Oklahoma. Instead, the best player on  this College Football Playoff team is WR Marquise Brown.

We’re not sure how much we’ll see of Brown in the College Football Playoff, as he was injured in Oklahoma’s last game against Texas. Hopefully he can return for the Sooners. Going against Alabama’s defense, the fourth ranked College Football Playoff team doesn’t want to be without their top playmaking WR.

Brown leads all Oklahoma WRs in receptions and receiving yards. He’s also tied for first in receiving TDs with WR CeeDee Lamb. This is Brown’s second straight season with over 1,000 receiving yards, which shows he has consistency.

If Brown isn’t able to play against Alabama, he won’t be easy to replace. WR CeeDee Lamb is having a great season, but after him, the next leading WR on the team has 457 receiving yards. That’s a huge drop off from Brown’s production.

Whether or not Brown plays in the College Football Playoff shouldn’t impact his draft status. NFL scouts know the type of player they’ll get when he returns to full health. Brown is a quick, explosive receiver who can take the top off any defense. Every team is looking for one of those guys.

Marquise Brown is the cousin of Steelers WR Antonio Brown. I wouldn’t imagine his relation to Antonio Brown would elevate his draft status, but if teams think he has potential to be even close to what AB is, Brown will be a high selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. I’m not so sure Brown will be a first-round WR. There are a lot of talented receivers entering this next draft. With that being said, I wouldn’t expect Brown to fall too far if he falls. Second-round at the latest is my prediction for the Oklahoma WR.

Hopefully Marquise Brown can get back on the field for the College Football Playoff. Even if he doesn’t, he’s still the best 2019 NFL Draft prospect the Sooners have to offer.
