College Football week 14 takeaways: Hurts shines bright for Alabama
Sooners Take The Big 12
A matchup back in early October for the #4 Oklahoma Sooners remained on their minds over course of the season. It was a loss to the #15 Texas Longhorns by a score of 48-45 that proved to be one of the best contests in the Texas-Oklahoma rivalry.
The Sooners wanted redemption and they got it in the Big 12 Championship game. In need of a win for the conference title and a probable spot in the College Football Playoff, the Sooners withstood a back-and-forth affair to defeat the Longhorns, 39-27. Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray was his normal dangerous self with 379 yards passing and three touchdowns.
Questions were abound for a Sooners defense that gave up over 470 total yards on six different occasions this season. However, when the team probably needed them the most, they made the necessary stops late in the game and even recorded a safety midway through the fourth quarter.
Thanks to this win, Oklahoma was given the fourth spot in the College Football Playoff and will have a showdown in place against #1 Alabama on December 29th. An offense in tow that can score in bunches can truly be counted out.
Many still doubt the Sooners defense and rightfully so. But the presence of Murray and his dangerous weapons around him can make things very, very interesting.
