Considered one of the top cornerback prospects, the LSU redshirt sophomore Greedy Williams will sit out the Fiesta Bowl and will enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

LSU cornerback Greedy Williams announced that he will forgo playing in the Fiesta Bowl and is declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft. The 6’3″ 184 pound redshirt sophomore is considered as a top 10 pick as he should be the first cornerback taken off the board in April.

Williams announced his decision on Twitter on Sunday and his decision shocked LSU head coach Ed Orgeron as Williams posted his decision before his final meeting with the LSU coaching staff.

Williams was a first/second-team All-SEC, Freshman All-SEC and third-team All-American (AP) in 2017 in his first year starting on the outside for the Tigers. He is a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award this year and was a preseason/midseason All-American in 2018.

He has eight career interceptions and 19 pass deflections in his career with LSU. He was the team leader in interceptions and pass deflections in his freshman year starting for the LSU Tigers.

Williams has the rare size and speed combination as an outside cornerback that can shut down opposing receivers. With his length and athleticism, Williams is great at mirroring opposing receivers in man coverage and take chances to nab interceptions as a ball-hawking cornerback with above-average instincts.

He is also a very fluid athlete and will most likely impress at the NFL Scouting Combine with his speed and technique in February.

He does have a few flaws with his inconsistent zone/press coverage ability at times and struggles in run support as a tackler. Williams also will have to bulk up in the NFL as he is light for his stature and will have to be physical as a boundary cornerback.

But even with that said, Williams has the potential to be a star corner in the NFL for the numerous teams that need one as he will likely be a first-round pick in the top 10.
