The latest 2019 NFL mock draft features a unique configuration at the top. Namely a bunch of bad teams that seem to have stable quarterback situations.

How often does that happen? Not a lot. San Francisco has Jimmy Garoppolo. Arizona just drafted Josh Rosen. Oakland has Derek Carr (at least for now). It lends one to believe that there might be some considerable action at the top in the form of trades. For the time being though, those teams stand firm on their spots, hoping to bolster areas of their roster in dire need of help. The question lingers though. Who will make the big QB move because everybody knows it’s coming.

1. San Francisco 49ers

EDGE. Ohio State. Nick Bosa . 1. player. 42.

The San Francisco 49ers will get Jimmy Garoppolo back next year, which will be a big boost. However, they have other problems to worry about. Chief among them is the sad state of their defense. While it’s a well-coached unit, the simple lack of talent aside from a couple of standouts is evident. They need more firepower. Especially in that division with the Rams and Seahawks.

Nick Bosa is the right choice. He’s as talented or even more so than his Pro Bowler of a brother Joey in L.A. Big, strong, quick off the snap and able to bend the edge without losing speed. Pairing him with the emerging DeForest Buckner will give the 49ers front some serious juice on the defensive side of the ball. It won’t fix everything, but it will be a huge step forward.
