Does this year’s team beat the 2006 super bowl bears? I say yes. Devin Hester would be all but eliminated due to rule changes.

In terms of all-around talent? I’d say this team has the edge. The 2006 defense, for the first six weeks of that year, was superior to this one the Bears have. They had Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman, Tommie Harris, and Mike Brown all in their primes. They would be a tough group for this current Bears offense to tangle with.

The true mismatch comes from the other direction. That 2006 offense would be no match for this Bears defense. Rex Grossman trying to avoid Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, and Akiem Hicks? Then he has to try throwing the ball to Bernard Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad against Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara. Their best hope would be running the ball with Thomas Jones and even that’s difficult to see with how good this run defense is.

Early…but what do you do about right tackle and back up ol in post season? Kush/Massie/Witzmann out of contract. Sowell is scary as a replacement, no?

Honestly, the way things are going? I expect two of the three names listed to be re-signed. My choices would be Witzmann and Massie. Witzmann would come cheap and has credible experience in the offense. Massie because he’s been playing the best season of his career this year. His pass protection aside from one or two instances has been steady and solid. That said? I do expect them to seek out possible upgrades at those positions.
