The Most Underachieving NFL Head Coaches Ever For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
Jack Del Rio (Jacksonville Jaguars)
The Jacksonville Jaguars under Jack Del Rio faced the same difficulty some other coaches on this list did: They were part of the AFC South during the prime years of Peyton Manning.
That, in itself, makes it hard for anyone to reach any sort of high standard, but Del Rio’s Jaguars had a couple of moments where they looked legit.
In nine seasons as the team’s head coach, Del Rio finished with just three winning records and one playoff victory. The Jaguars won 12 games in 2005 and appeared well on their way to competing in the very tough AFC, but they fell into the quicksand of mediocrity after 31 wins from 2005-2007.
Del Rio lasted largely because of the success he had over those seasons, but he was let go during the 2011 season when the Jaguars drafted Blake Bortles to be the new face of the franchise.
He was hired in 2015 as head coach of the Oakland Raiders after experiencing some success (again) as a defensive coordinator elsewhere in the league.
