Trading Amari Cooper was a shock to many but it’s clear by now that Jon Gruden is dead set on building a roster entirely of his choosing, offensively and defensively.
One thing about wide receivers is he likes them tough and likes them able to run good routes. So he’ll be drawn to somebody like A.J. Brown right away. The Ole Miss receiver may not be the biggest or fastest, but he’s got a full package of skills. He can run with enough speed to create separation, is good after the catch, and shows a strong pair of hands.
His route running is also more advanced than typical college receivers. He’ll make a fine new toy for Derek Carr.
