Second Round: Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina

This year’s free agent wide receiver class is not great, and the 49ers largely passed on free agent receivers in 2018 anyway, so there’s no guarantee they would go that route anyway.

Injuries have limited the incredibly high ceiling of Deebo Samuel while at South Carolina, but he’s showing as a redshirt senior in 2018 to be a major weapon no matter how he gets the ball into his hands.

Samuel can return kicks, punts, he can take the ball out of the backfield as a runner, and he can play wide receiver. He’s having a breakout senior season at the receiver position but there are plenty of creative ways to get him involved in an offense and Kyle Shanahan just might be the perfect coach to make it happen.

The 49ers need some more pieces in their passing game and if they’re able to bring someone in through free agency to pair with a guy like Samuel and Dante Pettis/Marquise Goodwin, they could have a really dangerous group.
