The San Francisco 49ers have set the foundation, and 2019 will be their year to take a leap forward. How can the 2019 NFL Draft help?

The San Francisco 49ers were riding high after their strong finish to the 2017 season when Jimmy Garoppolo came in and helped the team win five straight games to end the season.

The honeymoon phase lasted all throughout the offseason for the 49ers but quickly ended as Jimmy G and the 49ers lost two of their first three games of the season before Garoppolo’s season was cut short with a knee injury.

The injury to Garoppolo really derailed the 49ers’ hopes to compete in 2018 but has paved the way for them to be a major player in the 2019 NFL Draft.

If the season ended today, the 49ers would have the second overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, and unfortunately for them their current most pressing needs don’t quite line up with the strength of this year’s draft, which is on the interior defensive line.

In today’s NFL, however, you can never have too many good defensive linemen and the 49ers might just build a brick wall up front if they can to protect their stellar group of linebackers.

Armed with nearly $70 million in cap space before making any significant cap moves, the 49ers have a chance to make an impact in free agency again this year to surround Garoppolo and the other key pieces of this rebuild by John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan.

Which players from the 2019 NFL Draft could make an impact and help this team take a leap forward? Let’s take a look at a three-round mock draft for San Francisco that could make it happen.
