Carolina Panthers: Steve Beuerlein takes over for Kerry Collins

The Carolina Panthers viewed Kerry Collins as the answer at the quarterback position as their franchise was really just getting off the ground in the 90s, but he proved early on in his career to be a fish out of water.

Not even making it through four seasons with the team that drafted him fifth overall in 1995, Collins completed just over 51 percent of his passes while a member of the Panthers with 51 touchdowns and a whopping 64 interceptions in 52 games.

Collins’ ineffectiveness paved the way for backup Steve Beuerlein who replaced Collins in 1998 and as the full-time starter in 1999 came in and threw a career-high 4,436 yards at the age of 34. Beuerlein also doubled his previous career-high of 18 touchdowns in a season at the time with 36.

He would spend just one more season as the Panthers’ starter after that, however.
