Wildcats to the Big Ten title game

If you were to tell me prior to the season that the no. 24 Northwestern Wildcats would be in the Big Ten title game by season’s end, I would have given you a very awkward glance as I turn and walk away.

Lo and behold, here we are.

Quietly, the Wildcats find themselves in the Big Ten championship game after a 14-10 win over Iowa (6-4, 3-4 Big Ten) to improve to 6-4 on the season. A 6-1 conference record on the year for Northwestern ultimately elevated the team to this significant accomplishment.

Led by running back Isaiah Bowser, who rushed for 165 yards on the day, a grind-it-out approach by Wildcats was enough to get a big road win.

Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald deserves plenty of praise with 93 wins under his belt as the Wildcats head coach since taking the job in 2006. Each of the last three seasons have ended with bowl bids for Fitzgerald and the Wildcats. Now they wait to see who they will face in the title game but for now, the Wildcats program is on a well-deserved high.
