Buckeyes take care of the Spartans

It was sluggish for just about three quarters for both teams until an over-calculation by Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio opened the door for the no. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes. To keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive, the Buckeyes (9-1, 6-1 Big Ten) exited Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan with a 26-6 victory over Michigan State.

An odd call late in the third quarter by Dantonio in a 7-6 game opened the floodgates to momentum and eventually a loss. With the ball on their own one-yard line on fourth down, Dantonio decided to take a safety instead of what should have been a punt. The play gave the Buckeyes a 9-6 lead and two drives later, a fumble in the end zone by Spartans quarterback Rocky Lombardi was recovered by Ohio State and placed the Spartans (6-4, 4-3) in a 16-6 hole in which they were obviously unable to climb out of.

For the Buckeyes, the season finale against no. 4 Michigan will set stage for the Big Ten East division title and a highly probable spot in the College Football Playoff. It has seemed that the Buckeyes have not been at their best in quite some time but yet here they are still alive and well in the Playoff picture.
