After defeating the Los Angeles Rams, the New Orleans Saints are now in prime position to steal home field advantage for the entire 2018 postseason.

This certainly improves their odds of making the Super Bowl, something Drew Brees and Sean Payton have been trying to do for the past nine years. It’s hard to imagine such a productive quarterback and head coach pairing haven’t been able to get that far again. If nothing else it’s proof that simply getting to the big game is hard, especially in the NFC.

The fact they’re doing this after one of the most painful losses in NFL history with the Miracle in Minnesota makes it all the more impressive. This is a team on a mission and they intend to see it through. Will they do it though? Sports Illustrated polled their top experts to get their assessments on which teams would make the playoffs, reach the Super Bowl and win it.

Of the eight names who provided their playoff field, five of them selected the Saints to win the championship. No other team was even close with the Steelers, Patriots, and Chiefs each taking one vote. So why is there so much confidence in this team?

Most would say the main reason, as always is Brees who continues to be the Hall of Famer he is. However, it goes beyond that. Andrew Brandt put it in the best perspective, explaining why this Saints team is so good and so heavily favored as they are.

"“Enough about “defense wins championships.” This is not your father’s NFL; teams have to score and score easily to win. My Super Bowl teams—Saints and Chiefs—are the two teams that I feel can score in multiple ways, led by experienced coaches with creativity that doesn’t wane and defenses that are not great but “good enough.” And their quarterbacks are leading candidates for the league’s MVP.Despite their current records, the key challengers in the NFC will be the Eagles and Packers. And the Steelers and Patriots will challenge in the AFC, as always, but—rookie quarterback or not—this is the year of the Chiefs. Well, at least until the Super Bowl, where Brees’ experience and guile will carry his loaded roster to the promised land.”"

The Saints have always been about offense. They have weapons everywhere as usual. What makes them different now is they have a defense to compliment them. Cameron Jordan, Marshon Lattimore, Sheldon Rankins, Marcus Williams and rookie Marcus Davenport make up a talented group who have proven they can make things happen. There isn’t a team in the NFL the Saints can’t beat. They’ve proven that.

It’s a matter of finishing the job this time.
