4. 44th Overall Pick – Dante Pettis – San Francisco 49ers

Games Played: 6

Games Started: 1

Receiving Stats: 3 receptions for 96 yards, an average of 32.0 yards per catch and 1 TD.

Analysis: Dante Pettis had a pretty good start to his rookie season. Pettis caught two passes for 61 yards and a TD in his first career game, which was then followed up by catching one pass for 31 yards in his first career start.

Since the promising start, Pettis hasn’t done anything. Part of the reason for that is because of a knee injury he suffered against the Chargers back in week four. Pettis missed three games due to the injury, but has since returned. Since returning, Pettis hasn’t done anything. Pettis hasn’t had a ton of playing time since returning to action, but it’s still not encouraging that he hasn’t done anything since coming back.

One positive thing to say about Pettis is he seems to have potential to be a big play threat. Going back to those first two games of the season, Pettis averaged 32.0 yards per catch. He’s only got three receptions, but the 32.0 yards per catch leads all rookie WRs. Hopefully Pettis can make more big plays if he can get on the field again soon.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see how Pettis’ role increases in the future. Whether it’s this season or next, I believe Pettis will play a significant role for the 49ers at some point.
