The New Orleans Saints are renting Dez Bryant for half a season. Bringing him in with the roster they already have is just unfair.

Dez Bryant is finally making his long awaited, highly anticipated return to the NFL by reportedly signing a contract with the New Orleans Saints.

Bryant, a former first-round pick out of Oklahoma State, has been waiting for the right deal to come up and turned down an offer prior to the season from the Cleveland Browns.

It turns out Bryant was smart to do so, because he’s now in a great situation with the Saints, one that is truly unfair for the rest of the league. What makes this move such a disadvantage for anyone playing New Orleans?

Right now, the Saints are converting more than 71 percent of their red zone appearances offensively into touchdowns. That’s good for the sixth-best percentage in the NFL right now, behind Cincinnati (of all teams), Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Seattle, and division rival Carolina.

The Saints understand that they are going to need any and every edge they can get throughout the rest of the season, and Dez Bryant pushes that red zone percentage even higher in all likelihood.

Even though his yardage numbers have dipped over the past three or four years, Bryant is still a very effective weapon in the red zone, and the proof is in the numbers.

Bryant has 11 red zone touchdowns over the past two seasons on just 18 receptions. When he’s targeted in the red zone, he knows how to come down with the ball, and the Saints already had some great red zone weapons in Mark Ingram, Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, and company.

Bryant now enhances what was already a very dangerous Saints offense, giving them one of the NFL’s best red zone weapons since he came into the league in 2010.

The Saints play the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football one week from Thanksgiving (November 29) in Dallas, where Bryant will have the chance to face off against his former team.

There’s nothing better than the drama of the NFL.
