West Virginia goes for two…and the win

For a guy that is in the Heisman race, what a time to have a Heisman moment.

Down by seven with 2:25 remaining, quarterback Will Grier guided his #7 West Virginia Mountaineers down the field for 75 yards and he connected with receiver Gary Jennings Jr. for a 35 -yard touchdown to bring the score to 41-40 in favor of the #15 Texas Longhorns. Of course, Grier and the Mountaineers (7-1, 5-1 Big 12) were not quite done.

A two-point conversion run by Grier gave West Virginia the 42-41 victory over Texas (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) and without a doubt, their biggest win of the season.

A push into the College Football Playoff is not out of the question for the Mountaineers and a win such as this helps considerably. Back-to-back games for West Virginia against Oklahoma State and #6 Oklahoma looms which means their focus cannot waver or else the opportunity to impress the CFP committee will fade.

As far as Grier goes, if he is not on your Heisman ballot (for some odd reason), it’s time to consider doing so.
