3. QB Justin Herbert, Oregon

Justin Herbert may be a long shot to go first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, but he’s at least worth considering. Oakland has told Derek Carr he’s their QB for the foreseeable future, but last night Carr was benched against the 49ers.

Most teams don’t bench their QB for the foreseeable future unless he’s not the QB for the foreseeable future. With everything that’s happened with the Raiders this season, it wouldn’t surprise me if Derek Carr isn’t around in the foreseeable future.

Could Oakland pass on two of the best overall prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft and try to get their franchise QB instead? Let’s not rule it out.

If they do go QB, is Justin Herbert the guy? First off, Herbert will need to decided if he’s entering the 2019 NFL Draft or staying at Oregon. If he does decided to enter the 2019 NFL Draft, he’d likely be the first QB taken.

Herbert has set his career highs in passing yards (2,069) and TD passes (20) through eight games this season. He’s also been able to stay healthy, which will be another key factor in his draft status.

Justin Herbert has the tools to be a successful NFL QB. Do the Raiders think he could be their franchise guy? If Herbert enters the 2019 NFL Draft, I think the Raiders will at least do their homework on him.
