The Chicago Bears mailbag this week is centered around the looming game against Buffalo and just how much of a trap it might be for them.

There’s no question it fits the description. It’s against a woeful team with a historically bad offense. A slate of divisional games will follow. Games of infinitely greater importance. So yeah. It’s hard for the Bears to not get distracted and feel like they might have this one. Then again they’ve already run into this problem once before down in Miami. So they’re likely a little more prepared for a letdown this time.

That said, what are some of the pressing questions Bears fans have for this week? Predictably, it starts with the same name on everybody’s mind.

How accurate is Bill Barnwell’s Bortles take?

Oh boy. When I first saw that comparison I nearly fell out of my chair. Barnwell is a smart writer for ESPN but his Bears takes over the past couple years have lacked substance. This might be the worst one he’s had to date. His basis for comparing Mitch Trubisky to Blake Bortles was simple: thinks to run too often and inaccurate down the field. That’s it.

Does he know how many quarterbacks could fit that description? Here’s a hint. It describes Steve Young early in his career too. Just look at the stat lines. Trubisky is superior in completion percentage, TD-to-INT ratio, and winning games. Bortles won eight games in his first two seasons. Trubisky has already won eight with nine still to go in 2018.

Nevermind the 35 interceptions and 23 fumbles he had. Trubisky is not nearly that careless with the football. So to answer the question, it’s a bad take. A really bad take.
