The Packers have always had a curious way of using their running backs. Ty Montgomery was the latest example. Here’s a guy who averaged 4.8 carries during his Green Bay career while also making 97 catches in 36 games. Why they never got him the ball more often is a mystery, and he’d finally had enough. His kickoff fumble in L.A. sealed his fate, and the Ravens are the team that stands to benefit by getting a versatile player for their backfield at dirt cheap prices.
Los Angeles Rams trade 3rd and 5th rounders for Dante Fowler: B
It was generally felt that one of the key things the Rams were missing was a pass rusher on defense. Somebody who could come off the edge and compliment Aaron Donald. They tried to get Khalil Mack but failed, so in the end they managed to secure Dante Fowler. He had eight sacks a year ago and has loads of potential. He could blossom under Wade Phillips. However, keeping him long-term might prove too difficult, which makes the price they paid a bit steep.
Washington Redskins trade 4th round pick for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: A
It’s not every day a team can score a Pro Bowl-caliber safety for a modest draft choice. That’s exactly what the Washington Redskins did. Already boasting a pretty strong defense, they scored it big when they managed to secure Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for a 4th round pick. Given what the safety has accomplished to this point, they got him for cheap. The Packers may have saved money by moving him out, but it doesn’t feel like they won any part of that trade.
