Oklahoma State upends #15 Texas

Under head coach Mike Gundy, no matter how good or bad Oklahoma State may be, they are good for an upset or two every season. This past Saturday night was their night to pull off one of those upsets.

Behind 321 passing yards and five total touchdowns from quarterback Taylor Cornelius, the Cowboys outlasted the Texas Longhorns to a 38-35 victory to give the Longhorns their first conference loss of the season. The Cowboys entered the contest on a two-game losing streak to Iowa State and Kansas State and the criticism was being turned up as the weeks rolled along.

For the Longhorns, they are not far removed from their Red River Rivalry win over #7 Oklahoma and the return of quarterback Sam Ehlinger from a shoulder injury was significant. Injury in tow, Ehlinger played solidly overall with 283 passing yards and four total touchdowns. A late game spat between Gundy and Texas head coach Tom Herman in the waning seconds showcased plenty of emotions in what was a back-and-forth affair. We’ll see in the coming weeks how this loss affects a Texas team that was on a roll after a season-opening defeat to Maryland.
