The latest 2019 NFL mock draft took on a drastic change when the Oakland Raiders secured themselves an unprecedented third 1st round pick.

Suddenly the silver and black are in firm control of what can possibly happen in the first round, granted all sorts of flexibility. It’s clear though that head coach Jon Gruden is aiming for a fresh start with a roster made of entirely of players he chose. Does that include the quarterback position? Derek Carr appeared safe when Gruden first arrived, but now people aren’t so sure. As it turns out, they have reason to feel doubts.

The Oakland Raiders are looking for a fresh start as they prepare to make their move to Las Vegas. While they’ve sworn to stand by quarterback Derek Carr, it’s becoming apparent that head coach Jon Gruden is only interested in a complete organizational reset. Khalil Mack is gone. Amari Cooper is gone. Carr seems like the next logical choice to be out as well. The Giants are looking for an answer to get out of the Eli Manning era and this fits their agenda perfectly.

As for Gruden, he now has a chance to start fresh with a quarterback of his choice. Justin Herbert seems like the obvious option. He checks almost every box a team looks for. He’s big, strong, athletic, has a live arm and can hit the throws with good accuracy at every level. He is also mobile for his size, allowing him to make more creative plays. Whether he’ll have the resilience to withstand Gruden’s demanding style is something else.
