What will it take for people to stop criticizing Trubisky? He is basically a rookie and is still learning. Give the kid a break

The primary criticism with Mitch Trubisky isn’t that he’s playing bad. Nobody who looks at his numbers can say he’s been that. He’s actually played well. The problem they have is that he’s missing on way too many “layup” plays. Receivers who are wide open down the field and he simply under or overthrows them. Top NFL quarterbacks don’t do things like that and if he wants to be a winner like he so often says he needs to start hitting more of those plays.

Beyond these stats (and 5 SB wins), what’s the difference this year between Brady and Trubisky?

Winning always creates different perceptions of a player. That’s why Brady gets a free pass while Trubisky gets hammered. However, the deeper reason for people getting on Trubisky is that he’s not hitting on the big opportunities nearly as often as Brady does. Their numbers may be similar but Trubisky has missed on far more open receivers this year. His numbers should be way higher right now, and that’s what is frustrating people so much.
