The injury to Devonta Freeman decreases the likelihood of this happening for the moment, especially after the Falcons beat Tampa Bay, keeping hopes of alive of re-entering the playoff chase. However, it’s important to remember that Coleman will be a free agent in 2019. So if they’re going to get anything for him, their opportunity is almost up.

Granted, they could just play out the string and expect a compensatory draft choice in 2020 depending on the type of contract he signs elsewhere. Still, the odds are with so many teams around the league needing a running back and the Falcons having invested so heavily in the position it would make sense to do this if they feel the deal is worth it.
