2019 NFL Mock Draft: Attacking and protecting young quarterbacks
In our latest 2019 NFL mock draft projection, we take a look at how NFL teams are going to be working to protect their young QBs and get after everyone else’s.
Saying the New York Giants need to address the quarterback position is an understatement. Eli Manning was given one more shot to prove he can still play. New York drafted a generation running back and a guard in the first two rounds and gave Nate Solder $15.5 million guaranteed to play left tackle.
Could Manning survive with an offensive line compiled of solely Pro Bowlers? Possibly, but that’s obviously unlikely to happen. Is this the best offensive line New York could have provided for Manning? That’ll be a major question going forward after the team stuck with former first round pick Ereck Flowers, who has since been cut. New York has allowed 20 sacks, tied for fifth-most in the NFL.
Regardless, Manning is what he is. He’s well past his prime, and while he could play for another year or two he’s not the number one option to win football games on most teams.
It’s time for the Giants to move on from Manning this offseason, whether that means his release, a trade, or retirement.
Justin Herbert has emerged as the consensus number one quarterback among NFL Draft evaluators. The Oregon product has flashed tremendous abilities for the Ducks, completing nearly 65% of his career pass attempts.
