The Jacksonville Jaguars came into 2018 with the highest of expectations. They believe they’re ready to win the Super Bowl. Seems that was premature.

Something is seriously off with the team of late. Their once vaunted defense just got pasted for 40 points in Dallas and their offense has looked out of sorts for weeks thanks to the absence of their premier running back Leonard Fournette. This has put the burden of the offense on the shoulders of quarterback Blake Bortles. Who, true to form, has looked wildly inconsistent.

The former #3 overall pick has never been that guy who can carry an offense on his shoulders. Now without a running game and a cast of frankly average wide receivers, he’s being exposed like never before. In his past two games, he’s thrown two touchdowns and five interceptions. He has nine touchdowns and eight interceptions for the season.

Everything looks like he might be regressing back to the player he was two years ago, which would explain why speculation has ramped up about a possible move by the Jaguars to go get some help. Perhaps a quarterback that can push Bortles for the starting job.

Kurt Warner thinks Nick Foles is perfect option to push Bortles

More from NFL Mocks

Prior to Thursday Night Football, Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner got involved in a discussion where possible trade scenarios were presented for certain teams around the league. Unsurprisingly, he singled out the Jaguars QB situation as something that needs to be addressed, and the sooner the better.

"“We need a quarterback that can show some consistency. Blake has had some ups, and he’s had some downs but a lot of downs lately. So I need a guy that’s going to push Blake Bortles. That’s going to be ready if he can’t get this thing done.”"

Initially, his fellow panel thought the obvious choice was Eli Manning. The Giants quarterback has worn out his welcome for most in New York but he has connections to Jaguars VP Tom Coughlin who won two Super Bowls with him. It seems like a natural fit. However, Warner seemed far more open to the idea of Jacksonville pursuing Eagles backup Nick Foles instead.

"“Here’s what I like about that guy down on the end. Is he can just sit there in the wings and if things don’t go well or if an injury happens, I know that guy can come in and lead my team to a Super Bowl championship. And maybe win a Super Bowl MVP along the way. So I say that the Jags should go out, get that insurance policy and this guy’s been about as good an insurance policy as anybody in the league.”"

It’s an interesting idea. Foles was superb coming off the bench last year. Coming to Jacksonville might actually give him his last legitimate opportunity to win an NFL starting job. Whether he can have any success away from the QB-friendly system in Philadelphia is the big question. He’d likely run into many of the same problems that Bortles is having.
