It may be a while until the program is back in the comfortable state where they could contend in the SEC but picking up an interesting win on the road against Auburn is a positive sign that they truly needed.
It was the Volunteers first win over the Tigers since 1999 and it was their first conference win in almost two years. A program that has been surrounded by coaching hires, non-hires, and woes, the Volunteers gave their fan base something to smile about.
Sophomore quarterback Jarrett Guarantino passed for a career-high 328 yards and it was his fifth game this season with no interceptions thrown. First year head coach Jeremy Pruitt was tasked with finding stability at the position and Guarantino just made an impression with an outing like this.
With all that the program has seen lately and their tough climb back to SEC respectability, this was coveted.
