College Football Week Seven Takeaways: Top 10 turmoil
Dwayne Haskins pulls ahead of the Heisman pack
Weeks into the 2018 college football season, it was tough to pinpoint a clear leader in the Heisman race. After this past week, meet the favorite.
Sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been a catalyst for the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes this season. After throwing for 412 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, Haskins is third in the FBS in passing yards with 2,331 and he leads the FBS in passing touchdowns with 28. There is no question that Haskins is the best player on the team currently and how far the Buckeyes go this season will probably depend how well Haskins is performing.
I’ve felt that West Virginia quarterback Will Grier and Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray were prime Heisman candidates this season. But with Grier having an off night this past week against Iowa State and Murray on a bye, Haskins may have clearly taken that step forward and proclaimed himself as the top candidate for the Heisman this season.
