2018 NFL Season: 10 offseason hot takes being proven false
By Erik Lambert
“Mitch Trubisky is a bust”
Oh the armchair experts were lapping it up on this one. Former #2 overall pick Mitch Trubisky had a rough rookie season with 7 touchdown passes and 7 interceptions. Everybody was convinced that there was no way he could become a franchise quarterback. He showed too many faults and the Chicago Bears have never been good at developing the position anyway.
Things change though. It was clear that talent wasn’t Trubisky’s issue. It was experience, mechanics, and a lack of weaponry. Chicago solved that last one with their strong offseason getting Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Trey Burton, and Anthony Miller. Head coach Matt Nagy and the new staff has been a huge help in polishing his fundamentals.
Now Trubisky has 11 touchdowns and 4 interceptions through the first five games of the season. His 105.6 quarterback rating is better than Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady. Maybe it’s time to ease up on the kid.
