DT. Mississippi State. Jeffery Simmons. 25. player. 13.

George: Somehow Jeffery Simmons slipped to the end of the first round, and the Chargers will gladly take another star for their defense. One year after seeing Derwin James fall into their lap the Chargers will spring to the stage to take a dominant interior defensive lineman.

Los Angeles is building a bully on defense with James, a healthy Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Denzel Perryman, and now Jeffery Simmons.

Defensive tackles Brandon Mebane and Damion Square are both free agents this offseason. Los Angeles will look for Corey Liuget to return from suspension and dominate up front, but the Chargers need one more piece to complete their defensive line puzzle.

Simmons is one of many stars on the Mississippi State defensive line, playing next to Montez Sweat up front. He brings a high, consistent motor and is constantly in the backfield. Simmons will contribute primarily against the run, but last year he notched five sacks for the Bulldogs.

Los Angeles has allowed the sixth-most first downs to opposing rushers and stands to upgrade their defensive line with two players expected to hit free agency.
