LSU is known for their defensive backs, but linebacker Devin White could make a name for himself in the 2019 NFL Draft

Each of the last two NFL Drafts there have been four linebackers taken in the first round, the most since 2014. When the 2019 NFL Draft finally rolls around we might not see as many, but one who should be in the conversation is LSU’s Devin White.

While LSU is primarily known for producing defensive backs, they’ve also produced some excellent linebackers, such as Kwon Alexander and Deion Jones. White stands to be the next NFL-caliber linebacker to come out of Baton Rouge.

Height: 6’1
Weight: 240 lbs
Class: Junior

Against Auburn he sticks out on the first play making a strong tackle on a running back after a short gain. He’s listed as the ROVER on LSU’s depth chart and it’s fairly obvious on tape that they’re comfortable playing him both inside and outside. Teams will love the versatility White has displayed in college.

White does a good job when it comes to diagnosing plays, both run and pass. His specialty is making tackles in the open field and takes good angles to the ball carrier.

What jumps out immediately with White is his inability to shed blockers, and not just offensive linemen. There have been receivers and tight ends who have held the linebacker up. He’ll either have to build strength or learn how to use his hands better to shed blockers. His aggressiveness from play to play is also a question

Williams projects to be a mid first round pick in a draft littered with defensive ends and pass rushers. If a team needs a middle linebacker in the top-10 there’s an argument for White to go that high.
