5. player. 31. . QB. Oregon. Justin Herbert

Taking an offensive tackle is tempting, but the New York Giants need to learn from their mistake and take the heir to Eli Manning in 2019. While Saquon Barkley is a player they can build with on offense and he can still be a generational talent, he’s not the person they should build their entire offense around.

New York has too much young talent on offense not to win, but Manning just can’t get the job done anymore. It’s time for a change and the fifth-overall pick allows the Giants to do just that.

I’m not certain that Justin Herbert will be better than some of the quarterbacks New York could have taken last year, but he’s turning into the clear number one in 2019. The Oregon quarterback might not win the Heisman, but like Josh Rosen he’s mechanically refined and can win football games. I’m not comparing him directly to Rosen, but that’s the kind of prospect he is coming out of college.

Having an offense with Herbert, Barkley, Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram could be special with Pat Shurmur designing the offense.
